Getting Acne on HCLF Vegan Diet

This video is about how I got acne after switching to a high carb low fat vegan diet. I struggled with perioral dermatitis and then hormonal acne for about one year. I tried SO many different things… here are the ones that worked for me. I hope it is helpful for anyone who may be struggling with a similar problem!

Cream for Perioral Dermatitis: Himalaya Antiseptic Cream
Apple Cider Vinegar
B Complex Vitamin
B12 Vitamin
Green tea (5 cups a day)
Gaia Herb Vitex Berry Supplements (two capsules in the morning)
…and more plant fats!!! 😉

  1. I typically never comment but this is so important that I will share a super-short summary of my story. Went vegan 7 years ago (I am 21 now) for ethical reasons. Got into endurance sports (long-distance running and biking) around the same time. Found the whole Freelee HCLF RT4 movement on YT appr. 5 years ago and started following that diet. In short: my body felt awesome, sport performance was through the roof, my skin had never looked worse. Like, a horrible case of hormonal cystic acne. For years I thought this had to do with my age and my body "purging" all the bad stuff out, as I heard from many hclf youtubers. But on my 20th birthday I had a complete (internal) emotional breakdown as nothing had changed for my skin since the age of 15-16. I started doing research, huge amounts of it. If you are wondering why I didn't visit a gp for this, or a dermatologist, I did. And they all told me to use super expensive scrubs and/or go on the pill. As I am ultra sensitive to any kind of antibiotica, or chemicals entering my body in general, this was no option. But after months I found what felt like a loophole in this whole issue! Again, in short: the excessive amounts of (fruit)sugars and simple carbs were causing a huge overproduction of insulin, which in turn triggered male hormones that, as we all know, causes excess sebum production. THERE YOU GO. I felt like I just discovered a new freaking planet with magical waterfalls and talking unicorns. So naturally I went on the extreme side of things and lived a low-carb high fat lifestyle (vegan, duh) for two weeks, during which my painful cycts smoothed out with each day. So basically I was eating nuts, seeds, avocado's, vegetable soups for dinner with tofu or steamed non-starchy vegetables with tempeh. And one apple a day. I felt like dying, got a bad case of the keto-flu, but I was so desperate that I was willing to eat carton at this point. After two weeks I started incorporating whole grains like buckwheat and barley and steelcut oats (not the finegrained kind) and two-three pieces of fruit in the morning. PLUS some source of plant fat with all my meals!!! Nuts with my oats and fruit, avocado or olive oil with my salad at lunch and dinner. Tahini, flax seeds. I was very careful never to eat anything with a high or medium glycemic LOAD (look it up). Things I didn't eat at all ( out of the already whole-foods spectrum, so obvi no junk or anything): any kind of rice, any potatoes, bananas, dried fruits, dates. All the high carb goodness I used to live off. Now, one year later, I follow a whole foods starchy diet with small amounts of plant fat daily, try to stay away from pre-prepared stuff (a.i. eat edamame instead of tofu), I now have one-two bananas a day and potatoes (with guacemole/tahini) once a week or so. Still no rice, dried fruits, dates, or pasta – it just doesnt work for me. My staples are whole grains, low GL fruits, all vegetables, beans, lentils! I do not want to make this story any longer but my skin is almost flawless, the only little reminders are the tiny scars that I am treating with Biodermal acne scar cream, the only cream I will ever use, it is an absolute gem. The only other things I did besides changing my diet is apply ACV tonic three times a day (this baby would fucking destroy the skin care industry if it gets mainstream) and zinc supplements. I am considering sharing this story under more youtube videos, because I know just how horrible it feels to feel like your skin is attacking you. I am open to any questions! Good luck 😙

  2. Hi there, have you considered Fopobiacne Secrets yet? Simply do a search engine search. On there you'll find a great guidelines about how you can clear your acne naturally. Why don't you give it a chance? perhaps it will work for you too.

  3. I’m going through the exact same thing 🙁 I went vegan for acne and it totally cleared me up. Then, I started developing a weird type of acne I’ve never had before, around my mouth. I also developed perioral dermatitis. I’m cutting out soy and now sugar to see what’s happening

  4. What are some ways to break free from your acne? I read plenty of good opinions on the net about how Fopobiacne Secrets will help you get rid of your acne problem. Has anyone tried using this popular natural acne remedy?

  5. So I have acne and exfoliative chelitis (I too self diagnosed lol) it's a rash around my mouth. I'm a vegan. I've tried a vitamin b12 supplement but I broke me out so bad! I'm kinda scared to take supplements now.

  6. Check out the low glycemic food index (low sugar / low starch) for healing skin issues.

A high carb low fat vegan diet is no doubt highly rated for ultimate health in the long term.

The problem is that the majorly of fruit and veg has a high glycemic load on the body which spikes blood sugar ((watermelon, banana, parsnip, potatoes, carrots, pineapple to name a few)) – the culprit to flare ups.

Such high GI foods must only be reintroduced into your diet once fully healed.

We need a balance of carbs, fats and protein as stated. This is key. Don't be afraid of them.

In the early states I eliminated all dairy products, wheat (gluten free), meat, nigh shades, alcohol and navy more known triggers. To say it has helped tremulously in my journey to health would be an understatement.

Eczema / rosacea sufferer 10 years.

    90% cured with low GI plant-based diet.✌️

  7. Please speak to a naturopath / do a hormonal test before taking vitex! As different supplements are prescribed based on whether your testosterone is high or your estrogen 🙂

  8. Acne No More  ===>>https://twitter.com/Rebecca50342708/status/890641135726612481 is a genuine and authentic solution for anyone wishing to achieve clear skin. There are so many frauds and dishonest vendors out there selling dreams of clear skin but this one actually delivers. My sister and I have been battling acne for 6 years before we came across Mike Walden's program. It worked. Not instantly, but worked perfectly. I am so proud of my new and glorious skin and my sister is grateful too for all the help given to us without any hesitations by Mr. Walden himself (who still replies to customer queries manually every day). Unbelievable. Top shelf product and highly recommended!!!

  9. Hey everyone. So I've been hclf because I run a lot and it feels great on my body, but I've been getting acne on my face as well. I'm 15 so I think this could be due to age but I do consume a ton of fruit. So I'm trying to switch to a Whole Foods plant based diet.

  10. I ate raw till 4 for 3,5 years to heal my acne.. And it went away instantly, but now I have so much cavities because of the fruit and bad tooth cleaning.. and I have started eating the starch solution instead, and now my acne is back again:( I try to cut out soy and ALL fat and also white sugar. It is just so frustrating. I am thinking about that maybe it is because of candida or leaky gut.. :-S Peanutbutter will make me break out in my face..

  11. this was really helpful. i've transitioned to vegan about three months ago and had a pimple breakout on the 3rd month. i was blaming it on sweat since i started going to the gym on a regular basis. then i googled "vegan acne" and most of the forums pointed out it was soy. it didn't cross out my mind that it can be fruits or fructose or sugar.

  12. hi sweetie
eating lots of rice will not improve health ,try to avoid glutan and grains it has hidden sugar which will increase ur cholesterol and mess up with ur insulin , so eats more omega3 fat like coconut oilseeds, nuts ,avocados ,and little amount of protein (go for oranic fermented soy),any one low glycemic fruit (low in sugar) in a day, avoids non organic non fermented soy, canola oil,s sunflower oils, hygrogenated oils, corn and corn oils(dis will mess up ur blood sugar and cholesterols ,diabetes too.Eat lots of cruciferous vegetable s (organic),coconut yogurt s,cocnut milk and cream ,lemons+ACD +water before meals, no snaking in between meal that will disrupt ur insulin .instead of glutan or grain switchs to almonds ,flaxs, coconuts, arrowroots flours.not only acne ,first u need to take care of ur health too .:)

  13. Hi there, have you considered Fopobiacne
Secrets yet? Just do a google search. On there you will find a great
guidelines about how exactly you can clear your acne naturally. Why not
give it a chance? maybe it will work for you too.

  14. I recommend this acne guide “fito shocking plan” (Google it) to anybody who is struggling with discovering the right acne cures on their own. Acne has run in my family and I underwent testing some remedy for acne. Luckly, the acne does disappear with this particular amazing guide.

  15. Hi there, I am a 21 year old girl and I've been struggling with harsh
PMS breakouts for the last two years. I have regular periods-to the
exact day- but I always experience a cystic chin breakout (only on my
chin) about a week before my period starts. After my period ends, I
normally get about two weeks of being clear before the cycle starts
    again.

Here is what Ive been taking that has helped a lot but hasn't cured my acne completely:

-vitex (2X per day in AM)

-evening primrose oil (3 x per day, morning, afternoon, night)

-burdock root (3x per day, 2 pills each, morning, afternoon, night)

-milk thistle (6 pills daily, 3x per day)

    -vit. D3 (whenever I can)

    here's my face routine:

-make up remove with coconut oil (also use as face moisture)

    -wash using African Black Soap

I also follow an extremely clean diet: little grains (bread rice, etc.), no dairy, no coffee (only teas), no oils, no junk food

and I work out pretty much daily (bike, run, and hot yoga)

is there anything you guys can recommend to cure or greatly reduce PMS breakouts? thanks!!

  16. You certainly figured it out. Your skin and hair look so healthy and shiny! Literally like the prettiest blond shiny hair I've ever seen. Is it natural? I noticed you cut it in other vids. Maybe donate it?
Anyway, thank you for these tips. I've struggled with hormonal acne for nearly 20 years. Maca root is hormone balancing herb. I take it everyday. Also aloe, lemon juice and glycerin as a moisturizer with Witch Hazel/Lavendar moisturizing water are excellent night time ritual tools. Eating balanced (pro/carb/fat) vegan has also done wonders for me. I'm glad you're no longer in the HCLF diet trend. Anything that causes a woman losing her period is not helping your hormonal balance. I wish that were more obvious to more ppl.

  17. I had the same exact experience! And I never had acne before , even in my teens! When I started eating more starch, seeds, greens, mostly all cooked and stopped the high fruit meals, every thing cleared up!

  18. Very Useful acne guide “fito shocking plan” (Google it). I never feel sorry downloading it and had read the easy procedures on how these acne remedies are done. I will be testing out some of these tips from this book for my son. Sounds simple, but I`m certain small changes can yield big, satisfying results.

  19. I've basically memorized this video because I keep coming back to it. I'm struggling so much with hormonal acne ever since i went vegan. My back acne cleared up completely after i went veg but then my chin and jawline erupted. It is constantly breaking out and right before my periods I break out all over my body. I don't know what to do. I keep hoping it will just clear up but every morning its exactly the same. I feel like everyones solution seems to be birth control. I just want my old skin back and I don't want to take BC. I'm going to try vitex and green tea. Also maybe cutting out refined sugar and processed foods?? I don't know what else to do. 🙁 thanks for this vid.

  20. hi, first OF ALL thank you for sharing it takes some carriage. im quite sad that i just see it now because i knew i could help u with your long time situation in 5 min by telling you its suger waves related and the vitex you take is an ancient Israeli plant the dills with pcos so you should consult an nd or naturopath {the same thing different name in other states} before continue to take it for a long period of time.hope it was helpfull sorry in advance on my poor english

  21. I dont recommend aplee vinegar becaouse it can really breake off your digestion system, highly recommended insted of vinegar just lemon or limes really helps release toxins and smooth your acid ballance and improved your digestion

  22. i got acne after/ while travelling (for a year). i NEVER had pimples on my forehead and at some point it was so dry i had flakes of skin coming off every day. now that im back home and returned to my normal diet its still not getting better unfortunately. i dont eat high amounts of fruit but i do have my smoothies almost everyday. i could cut out the fruit for a while but i feel like thats not the source of my acne since ive had way more fuit in the past and that was never an issues. im so desperate ;__;

  23. I've gotten perioral dermatitis about once a year for almost ten years now and I've finally figured out that it is caused by candida overgrowth!! Eliminating sugar from your diet is one of the many ways to combat it.. which is probably why fruit made it worse.
